Alex Eala Wins Maiden WTA Title In Guadalajara

Filipina tennis star Alex Eala completed a career first in Guadalajara on Saturday.

She won her first WTA title (WTA 125) in a competitive three set final against Panna Udvardy where Udvardy jumped out to a one set lead with a quick 6-1 result.

Eala settled in and won the second set 7-5 and third set 6-3.

The 20-year-old World No. 75 leaped into the national tennis discussion after a career breakout tournament at this year’s Miami Open. Eala defeated Madison Keys, Jelena Ostapenko, and Iga Swiatek during that week.

Eala, a left hander, is a Rafael Nadal Academy student. She has a powerful forehand.

Alex Eala Keeps Writing Philippine Tennis History

No Philippine player has ever achieved the success Eala has, and she is just getting started.

This is Eala’s second WTA Final of the year. She lost the Lexus Eastbourne Open final in three sets to Australia’s Maya Joint. It ended with a third set tiebreaker that Joint won 12-10.

She has gained valuable experience this year which will help her develop her game.

Eala has won five ITF titles and is a US Open junior champion in 2022, and the 2020 Australian Open and 2021 French Open junior doubles champion.

Nike Backs Eala

Nike has developed merchandise specifically for Eala, highlighting the Philippines native flower, sampaguita.

The company also sent her sampaguita hair ties to wear during her matches.

Eala has also recently been a Vogue Philippines cover model and took a photo with the Nike shirt that is sold out in the Philippines.
