Danill Medvedev awaits Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals

Former World No. 1 and 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev won his first ATP title in over two years at the 2025 Almaty Open.

Medvedev has struggled with physical issues and temperament at times over the past two years since he lifted the trophy in May 2023 at the Italian Open. He has played well during the long Asian swing.

This is Medvedev’s 21st career ATP title.

As with everything befalling Medvedev on the tennis court these days, this title victory was not easy. He faced a surging Corentin Moutet who disrupted Medvedev’s hopes of securing the win in straight sets by winning the second set.

Medvedev Turns 30 In Early 2026

Daniil Medvedev is at an interesting juncture in his career. He is married, has two children, and is approaching his 30th birthday in February 2026.

Novak Djokovic has proven that players can play into their late 30s in this current environment; however, the domination by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, both in their early 20s, is a big challenge.

Medvedev is not the only player at this crossroads. Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Taylor Fritz, and Frances Tiafoe are others in their late 20s that have endured the Big 3 (Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal) in their early years and Alcaraz and Sinner in recent years on the ATP Tour.

It requires a lot of training and desire to forge ahead. Medvedev recently changed coaches, and this win will certainly help fortify his confidence and competitiveness as the 2025 tennis season nears its conclusion.
