American Robin Montgomery Advances To First Career WTA Semifinal At ASB Classic

American tennis player Robin Montgomery, a Washington DC native, defeated compatriot Bernarda Pera, 30, in straight sets to advance to her first-ever WTA semifinal at the 2025 ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.  Montgomery, 20, had the serve working from the start.  Pera never seemed comfortable and was constantly under pressure.

Robin Montgomery is a former US Juniors Grand Slam Champion. She ended her junior career in 2021 by winning the singles and girls’ doubles (with partner Ashlyn Krueger) US Open titles.

She is currently ranked 117th in the world and wants to break into the Top 100 and Top 50.  Advancing to the ASB Classic semifinals gives Montgomery confidence and momentum.  It also guarantees her a new career-best ranking of 104th.

Robin Montgomery will face the winner of the Madison Keys and Clara Tauson quarterfinal match.  Keys has a 1-0 advantage in head-to-head matches with Montgomery.  Montgomery has never faced Tauson.

The left-hander enjoyed her best Grand Slam finish at Wimbledon 2024 by advancing into the second round.

American women’s tennis is in good hands with 20-year-old Coco Gauff leading the way at the 2025 United Cup and Robin Montgomery rising through the rankings with a good 2025 start.  Gauff is the two-time defending ASB Classic champion who chose to forego the chance of a three-peat to compete at the United Cup.
