“The road to a championship is never paved smoothly,” NFL Hall of Famer and Cowboys legend Michael Irvin says to open the trailer. “It’s always paved with peaks and valleys.”

How ’bout dem Cowboys? The Dallas Cowboys were heading in the wrong direction during the late ’80s. After finishing the 1985 season with a 10-6 record, the Cowboys experienced four consecutive losing seasons, culminating with a 1-15 record in 1989.

In walks Jones, who purchased the team in February 1989. His first order of business was to fire longtime coach Tom Landry and hire Jimmy Johnson, the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.

Jones, who had no prior experience running a team, knew he had to take risks to turn the franchise around.

After a rocky start, Jones and Johnson turned the Cowboys into a powerhouse.

Johnson’s hard-nosed coaching style in practice allowed the team to succeed in the games.

The Cowboys’ brand skyrocketed during that time, and Jones now has his football team as the most valuable professional sports team in the world, with a valuation of over $10.1 billion.

Jones, aka The Gambler, even fired Johnson after the coach led the Cowboys to two consecutive Super Bowl victories.

“We do it our way, baby,” Jones says in the trailer.

The docuseries will feature interviews with Jones and many players and coaches involved with the Cowboys organization. Johnson, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, Barry Switzer, and more have been interviewed for the series.

Who’s Behind America’s Team: The Gambler And His Cowboys?

Maclain Way and Chapman Way are the directors of the Cowboys’ docuseries. The Emmy-winning duo has helmed several popular documentaries, including Untold and Wild Wild Country.

Executive producers include the Ways, David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, Jon Weinbach, Keith Cossrow, Jessica Boddy, Ross Ketover, Ken Rodgers, and John Skipper.

The Cowboys already have a strong relationship with Netflix. America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders just premiered its second season. The series follows the iconic Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and what it takes to make the team.

America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys premieres on August 19 on Netflix.
