Inside Andy Dalton’s New Contract

Dalton isn’t leaving Carolina.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 37-year-old quarterback has agreed to a new two-year, $8 million deal to return to the Panthers.

Dalton’s deal includes $6 million in guaranteed money and carries a max value of $10 million.

Dalton was set to become an unrestricted free agent next month. Instead, Carolina brings back the veteran to help develop and nurture franchise quarterback Bryce Young.

Dalton came to the Panthers in 2023 after spending the 2022 season with the New Orleans Saints.

Dalton signed a two-year, $11 million deal with the Panthers in 2023. Carolina used the No. 1 overall pick on Young during the same offseason.

After starting the first two games on the bench, Dalton replaced Young as the starting quarterback in Week 3. Dalton excelled that week, throwing for 319 yards and three touchdowns in a Panthers’ 36-22 win over the Raiders.

Dalton remained the starter for the next four games until he suffered a thumb injury in a car accident with his family. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.

Young started in Week 8 and remained quarterback for the Panthers for the rest of the season.

Dalton finished the 2024 season with 989 yards passing, seven touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Comeback Season For Bryce Young

After a 2-14 rookie season, Young looked like a lost cause after a 0-2 start in 2024.

Head coach Dave Canales benched Young in favor of Dalton.

What a difference two years make. Young looked like a completely different player after Week 7.

Young finished the 2024 campaign throwing for 2,403 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

In the final game of the 2024 season, Young looked like the top prospect the Panthers drafted two years ago. Young accounted for 275 total yards and five touchdowns (three passing and two rushing) in a Panthers’ 44-38 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Young enters the 2025 season with a newfound confidence with his quarterbacking mentor, Dalton, by his side.
