Texas A&M Drops After Loss to Texas

The dream season for Texas A&M hit a roadblock.

The undefeated Aggies lost their first game of the season, a 10-point loss to rival Texas.

With the loss, the Aggies fell to 11-1. More importantly, the loss knocked Texas A&M out of the SEC Championship. Instead of Texas A&M, Georgia will now play Alabama for the SEC title in Atlanta.

The loss moves Texas A&M from No. 3 to No. 7 in the AP Poll. The Aggies will no longer be in a position to earn a bye. Instead, they will likely host a quarterfinal game.

Will the Committee Let Two Big 12 Teams into the CFP?

The Big 12 Championship is set for AT&T Stadium on Dec. 6.

No. 5 Texas Tech will play No. 11 BYU at 12 p.m. ET.

It’s a rematch of their contest last month, when Texas Tech dominated BYU in a 29-7 loss.

If Texas Tech wins, it will earn the automatic bid into the College Football Playoff. The Red Raiders will likely earn a bye in the first round.

If BYU wins, things could get interesting. BYU winning means the Cougars automatically qualify for the CFP.

What will the committee do if Texas Tech loses to BYU? Does a loss end Texas Tech’s season, or do they have a chance to steal an at-large bid? It’s a fascinating scenario that will play out this weekend.

If I had to guess, a Texas Tech loss would likely not keep the Red Raiders out of the playoff. However, Texas Tech might have to go on the road in the quarterfinals if it slides past No. 8.

College Football Playoff Predictions

The majority of the participants in the College Football Playoff have unofficially clinched their berths.

Heading into conference championship weekend, the following teams will be in the College Football Playoff: Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, Oregon, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma.

Alabama is probably in the playoff even with a loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship. The committee typically does not penalize a top 10 team for losing the conference championship.

Virginia will make the CFP if it defeats Duke in the ACC Championship.

If James Madison wins the Sun Belt Conference, then the Dukes will make the playoff as one of the five highest-ranked conference champions.

If Alabama, Virginia, and James Madison are in, then Notre Dame will probably earn the final at-large berth.
