ATP Finals

The ATP Finals has gone from a field of eight to four.  Carlos Alcaraz, 2020 ATP Finals Champion Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, and Alex de Minaur have been eliminated. The semifinal matchups are set and will be played on Saturday as follows.

Taylor Fritz vs. Alexander Zverev 8:30 AM EST

American Taylor Fritz leads the head-to-head record 6-5 against Zverev.  Fritz has won their last three matches at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Laver Cup.

Zverev is a two-time ATP Finals Champion and has played spectacular tennis this fall. As a result, he took the World No. 2 ranking from Carlos Alcaraz.

Alexander Zverev has barely broken a sweat at this tournament.  His serve has not been broken, and he is breezing through his matches.

Can Fritz stop his quest for a third ATP Finals (2018, 2021) title just as he did over the summer and early fall at high-profile tournaments?

Is Fritz both a mental and physical hurdle for Zverev?

Casper Ruud vs. Jannik Sinner 2:30 PM EST

Casper Ruud has played well in the ATP Finals including a shocking upset of Carlos Alcaraz in the first round of round robin play.

However, Jannik Sinner is playing on a different level.  In front of the home fans, it will be practically impossible to defeat him.

Ruud is satisfied with his level at the ATP Finals and is confident against Sinner.

Like Zverev, Sinner has not surrendered a set at this year’s ATP Finals.

Ruud and Sinner have played twice with Sinner winning each match.  Sinner did not lose a set in either match.  Both were played in Vienna in 2020 and 2021.  Sinner’s game has improved considerably since that time.
