The 2025 Australian Open is entering its third day.  Even though not all of the first-round matches have been played, there are already some fascinating matches that tennis fans eagerly await in the second round.

Here are two women’s singles Australian Open matches that will be must-see television on ESPN.

1. Naomi Osaka vs. Karolina Muchova

Naomi Osaka won her first Australian Open match in three years over Caroline Garcia in the first round.  This was a do-over of last year’s Australian Open first-round match.

Her second-round match is also a do-over from the 2024 US Open second-round against Karolina Muchova.  Osaka lost the match in straight sets. Muchova leads the head-to-head series 2-1.  Osaka’s last win over Muchova came nearly five years ago at the 2020 Western & Southern Open.

Both players are such pure ball strikers that it will be fun to watch their rallies.

2. Emma Raducanu vs. Amanda Anisimova

Despite being close in age, Raducanau is 22 and Anisimova is 23, the two women have never played each other at a WTA match.  Both are great talents who have dealt with injuries and off-the-court issues.  It is not surprising, with so much in common, that they are friends.

Emma Raducanu struggled with severe serving issues in her first-round match. Double faults flew off her racquet in bunches.  She must clean that up against an opportunistic Anisimova who has approached the game with more joy since taking time off in 2023 for mental health reasons.

Raducanu and Anismova both have the game to be in the Top 10 rankings.  Currently, Emma Raducanu is 61st, and Amanda Anisimova is 35th. Hopefully, they stay healthy to make a run at it.  In the meantime, this will be a very entertaining match.
