“If you were from Boston, you were a born loser,” Ben Affleck says in the Believers: Boston Red Sox trailer.

Ever since Boston traded Babe Ruth (“The Curse of the Bambino”), the Red Sox experienced an 86-year championship drought.

Those eight decades of hardship left many Red Sox fans broken and battered.

“Every other Red Sox fan would look at you and know what you’ve been through,” Matt Damon states.

In 2004, everything changed for the Red Sox and the city of Boston. That was the year the Red Sox broke the curse and won the World Series.

After a heartbreaking loss via a walk-off home run by Aaron Boone, the Red Sox were on a mission in 2004. Boston became the only team in MLB history to win a seven-game series.

What made it even sweeter for Red Sox fans is that it came against their rival, the New York Yankees.

The Red Sox then defeated the St. Louis Cardinals to capture the World Series.

Notable Bostonians Affleck and Damon are prominently featured in the three-part series. Other notable interviews include Katie Nolan, Bill Burr, Donnie Wahlberg, Uzo Aduba, Sam Jay, Maria Menounos, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Several of the Red Sox players from the 2004 team gave interviews for the series, including Johnny Damon, Curt Schilling, David Ortiz, Kevin Millar, and Bronson Arroyo.

“Believers follows Boston’s improbable 2004 post-season run through the lens of the franchise’s complex history and the city’s passionate culture, capturing the defining moments when belief and extraordinary talent finally rewarded the city’s long-suffering faithful,” the official synopsis reads. “In doing so, the Red Sox did more than win a championship—they redefined what it meant to believe, both on the field and in the hearts of an entire fanbase.”
