The Cincinnati Bengals suffered a heartbreaking loss on Sunday afternoon despite late-game heroics from their offense. The team’s starting running back voiced his frustration during his post game interviews, and placed obvious blame on the defense for giving up the final touchdown of the game.
Bengals Players Call Out Defense: “Just Finish The F***ing Game”
In what will go down as one of the best games of the 2025 NFL season, the Bengals trailed the Chicago Bears by 14 points with just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter. But Cincinnati was able to pull off the improbable, scoring two touchdowns by way of a successful onside kick to take a 42-41 lead with 54 second remaining.

All they needed was one stop from their much-maligned defense, who came into the game ranked dead last in the league in both points and yards allowed. But instead of making a statement play, the unit saw their woes continue.
As Caleb Williams and the Bears tried to get into field goal range for a game-winning attempt, Cincy’s defense crumbled. Williams completed a long pass to tight end Colston Loveland, who bounced off of defenders and broke free to score what would be the game winning touchdown.
After an interception on the subsequent Hail Mary attempt by Joe Flacco, the game ended in a 47-42 victory for Chicago.
Ja’Marr Chase Shows Frustration, As Well
The situation did not sit well with running back Chase Brown. Showing his dissatisfaction with the loss, he blatantly blamed the defense:
“We put the ball in the end zone, go up at the end. Finish the f***ing game. Just end it. Like, that’s what we need to do. Just end the f***ing game”
Instead of completing one of the more improbable comebacks that we have seen recently, the Bengals suffered their second back-breaking loss. Just a week earlier, with their season hanging in the balance, they lost to the New York Jets, who hadn’t won a game up to that point. In that contest, they were outscored 23-7 in the final frame.
The disdain for the defense seemed to be a theme. As he walked back into the locker room after the defeat, Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was caught on camera saying “one f***ing stop” before disappearing behind closed doors.

Cincinnati, who was trying to hold on to playoff contention until a potential Joe Burrow return, fall to 3-6 with the loss. The bad taste will linger, as they will be on their bye week for Week 10, and they have a tough schedule coming out of the break. Their next five games will come against the Steelers, Patriots, and Bills, as well as two against the division rival Ravens.
