Berlin Open tennis fans are getting a blockbuster Wimbledon 2023 rematch in Friday’s quarterfinal match between Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova.  Jabeur and Vondrousova have battled injuries in recent years.  On that day, a nervous Jabeur was overtaken by a brazen Vondrousova who shocked herself and the world with her maiden Grand Slam win.

Vondrousova did not defend her title last summer, losing in the first round.  She got a late start to her 2025 season due to injuries. However, Vondrousova is looking a lot like her 2023 self in the early rounds of the Berlin Open, defeating 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys and Diana Shnaider en route to the quarterfinals.

It is worth noting that although tennis fans remember the outcome of the 2023 Wimbledon final between Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrouosva that the pair did play again later that year in the rain-soaked WTA Finals in Cancun.  Jabeur avenged the painful Wimbledon loss with a straight set win.

Making this match even more interesting is the fact that the pair is deadlocked at four wins each in their head-to-head records. They have not played each other since November 2023. This is their second meeting on grass.  The other was in 2021 at Eastbourne with Jabeur winning in straight sets.

Jabeur is also making headlines with her doubles pairing with Paula Badosa at the Berlin Open.  The team has prevailed through two challenging matches. The biggest challenge is expected in Saturday’s semifinal against the top ranked doubles team of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.

Badosa is still alive in the other side of the singles draw. The doubles team would not play each other in singles unless each advances to the finals.
