Here are the best NRFI/YRFI picks for July 1, including Giants vs. Diamondbacks. As July opens with a modest MLB slate, betting the Yes Run First Inning (YRFI) and No Run First Inning (NRFI) markets offers a unique edge, especially when pitching mismatches and top-heavy lineups come into play. Tuesday, July 1 , features two intriguing matchups for bettors targeting early scoring. The NL West clash between the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks is a clear candidate for first-inning fireworks, while Brewers-Mets presents sneaky YRFI value despite elite ERA numbers on the mound. Here’s a breakdown of our two favorite NRFI/YRFI bets for Tuesday’s MLB action. Giants at Diamondbacks: YRFI (-114) Time: 9:40 p.m. ETWhere to Watch: NBC Sports California, DBacks TV There’s nothing sneaky about this one — it’s the most obvious YRFI spot on the board. The Diamondbacks score in the first inning more than any other team in baseball, posting a 35.7% first-inning run rate. They also rank third in MLB in OPS (.776) and continue to hit well at home in Chase Field’s hitter-friendly confines. On the mound for San Francisco is Hayden Birdsong, a promising young arm who has struggled in the starting role. He owns a 5.40 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in seven starts and has been significantly better out of the bullpen. Birdsong now faces a surging Arizona lineup that can jump on pitchers early. Zac Gallen starts for Arizona, but don’t expect a clean opening frame from him either. Gallen has a 5.75 ERA overall, and an even uglier 6.97 ERA over his last 10 appearances. His command and velocity have both declined in recent outings. The Giants recently added Rafael Devers and bring a top-heavy lineup that’s far more dangerous in the opening innings. The downfall of Zac Gallen needs to be studied pic.twitter.com/qEDHgSXosN — Lily (@LilyWinsBets) June 25, 2025 Bet: YRFI (-114) Brewers at Mets: YRFI (+108) Time: 7:10 p.m. ETWhere to Watch: SNY (Mets), FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin (Brewers) At first glance, this matchup screams NRFI — both starters have sub-3.00 ERAs, and the Brewers rank 27th in first-inning scoring rate. But look deeper. Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta has been solid, but his expected ERA (xERA) sits at 3.74, suggesting regression is coming. The Mets start Clay Holmes, who also owns a shiny ERA but a concerning 4.12 xERA, and his barrel rate allowed remains high. The Brewers are a top-five offense on the road by OPS (.747), a stark contrast to their home splits. Meanwhile, the Mets rank seventh in overall OPS (.740) and jump to .761 vs. right-handed pitching, which they’ll see in Peralta. Both teams feature power at the top of the order, and a quick two- or three-batter rally could break this open early. Combine that with weather conditions favorable to hitters and shaky underlying pitching metrics, and +108 value on the YRFI is worth taking. Bet: YRFI (+108) Early-inning run bets aren’t just about ERA, they’re about opportunity, matchups, and lineup strength. The Diamondbacks’ league-leading first-inning production, paired with two volatile starters, makes their game with the Giants a prime YRFI target. And while Mets-Brewers may seem like a low-scoring affair on paper, deeper data points to early offensive potential. When the numbers and the narrative align, betting first-inning runs can be one of the sharpest plays on the MLB board. And on July 1, both of these matchups offer value before the second pitch is even thrown.
