The combat sports landscape has just become more electrifying with the announcement of BKFC Ice Wars, a groundbreaking new league that combines the intensity of combat sports with the thrill of ice hockey. Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), known for its innovative approach to combat sports, has acquired a stake in Ice Wars, a league founded by BKFC executive Charlie Nama. This partnership promises to deliver a unique and adrenaline-packed experience that will redefine the boundaries of traditional combat sports.

The Concept and Rules of BKFC Ice Wars

BKFC Ice Wars is designed to capture the essence of hockey fights without the hockey itself. Fighters, comprising former hockey enforcers and current combat athletes, will face off in “The Ice Box,” a specially designed 900-square-foot ice enclosure. Each bout will consist of three to five rounds, with each round lasting no more than 90 seconds, followed by one-minute rest periods. The fights will be judged based on effective striking, effective aggressiveness, and control of the fighting area.

Fighters will wear traditional hockey gear, including jerseys and equipment, but with a twist: they will use four-ounce MMA gloves instead of traditional hockey gloves. This setup ensures a blend of protection and combat intensity, allowing fighters to engage in high-energy battles without the constraints of hockey sticks or pucks.

Weight Classes and Events

BKFC Ice Wars will feature four weight classes: Lightweight (under 150 lbs.), Middleweight (150-175 lbs.), Cruiserweight (175-200 lbs.), and Heavyweight (over 200 lbs.). The inaugural event, titled “Battle of the Borders,” is scheduled for June 14, 2025, at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. This event will pit American fighters against Canadian competitors in a series of thrilling matchups. A second event is planned for June 28, 2025, at the River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, Alberta, Canada.

The partnership between BKFC and Ice Wars is seen as a strategic move to expand the reach of both organizations. BKFC, known for its bare-knuckle boxing events, brings its expertise in creating high-energy combat experiences. Ice Wars, with its unique concept, offers a fresh platform for fighters and fans alike. Together, they aim to create a new frontier in combat sports, leveraging the excitement of hockey fights without the hockey.

David Feldman, Founder and President of BKFC, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the alignment between Ice Wars’ vision and BKFC’s mission to deliver intense combat sports experiences. Charlie Nama, CEO of BKFC Ice Wars, sees this collaboration as transformative, providing the necessary platform to bring Ice Wars to the global stage.

With six events planned for 2025 and up to 24 events in 2026, BKFC Ice Wars is poised to make a significant impact on the combat sports scene. The league’s innovative format and the backing of BKFC ensure that it will attract a wide audience, from fans of traditional combat sports to those who enjoy the intensity of hockey fights.

As BKFC Ice Wars continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how it evolves and adapts to the demands of both combat sports enthusiasts and hockey fans. With its unique blend of combat and ice hockey, this new league is set to redefine the landscape of international prizefighting and entertainment. Whether you’re a seasoned fan of combat sports or just looking for something new and exciting, BKFC Ice Wars promises to deliver an unforgettable experience.
