Brian Windhorst Responds To Comments Made By LeBron James

All eyes have been on the LeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith feud that has been brewing over the past few weeks. Things came to a head when James appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday, and the two have continued their back and forth through the media in the hours and days since.

But there was another ESPN media member who was mentioned by James during his exclusive interview, and Brian Windhorst has responded to the comments.
James mentioned Windhorst by name in the interview, questioning the relationship that the reporter believes he has with the superstar basketball player:
“I’ve seen Brian Windhorst on one of these shows not too long ago…This guy says he’s like my f**king best friend. These guys are just weird.”
During his “5 Good Minutes With Windy” segment that he does for ESPN Cleveland, Windhorst addressed the comments on Thursday. He was humble, saying that LeBron doesn’t owe him anything, instead that he owes James a lot. “He has been a great friend to my hometown and my alma mater,” Windhorst added. “That, I would stand on. Anything else I would never say or never stand on.”

Windhorst has known LeBron James for 25 years, as he explained in his comments. The 47-year-old was born in Akron, Ohio and attended St. Vincent St. Mary’s High School, where LeBron would rise to fame just a few years later. He was the beat writer for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the first six years of James’ NBA career, and made the move to ESPN when James took his talents to South Beach and began playing for the Miami Heat.
Windhorst has regularly credited LeBron James for much of his rise in the media ranks, and had nothing but respect for the player in his most recent comments.
