Brooks Koepka is leaving LIV Golf following the 2025 season. Will the five-time major champion return to the PGA Tour in 2026?

Brooks Koepka Leaves LIV Golf

One of LIV’s biggest stars is exiting the league.

LIV announced that they “amicably and mutually” agreed that Koepka will not compete in the LIV Golf League following the 2025 season.

“Brooks is prioritizing the needs of his family and staying closer to home,” LIV Golf said in a statement. “We appreciate the significant impact he has had on the game and wish him continued success, both on and off the course.”

Koepka reportedly had one year remaining on the deal that he signed in 2022. Koepka originally signed a contract that exceeded $100 million, with some reporters saying it was closer to $150 million.

Koepka’s representative released a statement, citing the golfer’s wish to spend more time with his family as a reason for his departure.

“Brooks Koepka will be stepping away from LIV Golf,” Koepka’s representatives said in a statement. “He is deeply grateful to Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Scott O’Neil, and the LIV Golf leadership team, his teammates, and the fans. Family has always guided Brooks’s decisions, and he feels this is the right moment to spend more time at home. Brooks will continue to be a huge supporter of LIV Golf and wishes the league and its players continued success. Brooks remains passionate about the game of golf and will keep fans updated on what’s ahead.”

Taylor Gooch will take over for Koepka as the captain of Smash GC for the 2026 LIV Golf season.

Koepka has won five LIV Golf events since joining the league. In 2023, Koepka became the first LIV Golf player to win a major championship. His victory at the 2023 PGA Championship was his third PGA title and fifth major championship overall.

Will Brooks Koepka Join the PGA Tour in 2026?

Koepka will not play for LIV Golf in 2026. Does that mean he will look to rejoin the PGA Tour?

As of now, Koepka has not stated his intentions about his playing future.

Koepka is the first noteworthy player to leave LIV Golf. It will be up to the PGA Tour to determine his path back if he wants to play in non-major events.

The PGA Tour has previously suspended players who compete in LIV Golf events. On the Subpar podcast, Hudson Swafford, who was relegated from the LIV Golf Tour, said the PGA Tour suspended him, meaning he cannot rejoin the PGA Tour before 2027.

By winning the PGA Championship, Koepka is exempt from that tournament for life. Koepka, a two-time U.S. Open winner, is exempt at that major through 2028.

Koepka’s win at the 2023 PGA Championship makes him exempt at the Masters and British Open through 2028.

Koepka could still play DP World Tour events in place of the PGA Tour events.
