Browns Make Major Changes At Quarterback

On Wednesday, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Winston will start for the Browns against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8.

“He’s won a lot of football games,” Stefanski told reporters. “He’s seen a lot of football. So, we have total confidence in him.”

Winston replaces former starter Deshaun Watson, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 7. The Browns’ backup quarterback, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, suffered a finger injury in Week 7, making Winston the logical choice to start.

Winston entered the game on the final drive in Sunday’s 21-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Winston completed 5 of 11 passes for 67 yards and one touchdown.

Winston is a 10-year NFL veteran and the former No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Winston’s best year came in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he led the NFL in passing yards with 5,109.

Ken Dorsey Will Call Plays On Sunday

With the Browns at 1-6 and struggling on offense, Stefanski has relinquished playcalling duties. Offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey will take over as the playcaller.

This is Stefanski’s first game not calling plays for the Browns since becoming the head coach in 2020.

“I’m just always looking at what we can do to just be a little bit better,” Stefanski said. “And the truth is, we have to be better on offense. Coach Dorsey is somebody that I rely on very heavily, and I just feel like it’s the right thing to do.”

The Browns have not scored 20 points in any of their seven games.

Dorsey was the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills before the 2022 season.
