When Cleveland takes the field on Saturday, Joe Flacco will be starting at quarterback.
“We’ll play our starters in this game,” Stefanski told reporters on Thursday about his approach to the final preseason game. Stefanski hopes to play his starters around 20 to 25 plays, but it could vary depending on the player.
Flacco, 40, has not taken a snap during the preseason.
The news comes days after head coach Kevin Stefanski named Flacco the team’s Week 1 starter against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Flacco is the only Browns’ quarterback to remain healthy throughout all of training camp. Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders all suffered injuries in the past few weeks.
While Gabriel and Sanders were never going to play in Week 1, Pickett’s injury likely cost him the starting job.
Pickett, who was traded from the Eagles to the Browns in the offseason, suffered a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined during the preseason. Pickett enters the final year of his rookie contract, and 2025 was supposed to be his “prove it” year.
Unfortunately, Pickett’s injury might have cost him a shot with the Browns.
The Browns might carry four quarterbacks on the roster. However, Pickett might be the likeliest candidate for Cleveland to trade before the 53-man roster deadline on Tuesday.
Pickett is also a potential cut candidate.

Gabriel and Sanders will both play after Flacco against the Rams. Gabriel will be Flacco’s backup, while Sanders will play third.
The two rookies both capitalized on their playing time in the preseason.
Sanders got the start in the Browns’ first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, while Gabriel sat out with a hamstring injury.
Sanders looked like a poised veteran, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in a Browns’ 30-10 victory.
The following week, Sanders suffered an oblique strain that kept him out of the Browns’ second preseason game.
This time, Gabriel started the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The third-round pick went 13 of 18 for 143 yards and one interception in a Browns’ 22-13 win.
After the game, Gabriel said he had to tune out the noise and that there are “entertainers and competitors” when it comes to the Browns’ quarterback competition. Many viewed that as Gabriel taking a shot at Sanders.
Sanders said Gabriel told him that the comment is not about him. Sanders told reporters that “nobody’s words” affect him.
