Bryce Hopkins has entered the transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag. That usually means a player already has a destination in mind, or at least a shortlist. In Hopkins’ case, that list is taking shape quickly. He’s scheduled to visit Georgetown on Thursday and Friday, followed by St. John’s over the weekend. UConn and Kentucky haven’t locked in visits, but they’re still in the conversation.
Right now, this looks like a two-team race. Georgetown has the edge, but St. John’s is close behind. The other two are lurking.
An absolute difference-maker when healthy, Hopkins is ranked among the top available players in the college basketball transfer portal. Last season, he averaged 17.7 points and 7.7 rebounds while shooting 40% from 3-point range but only managed to play three games as a senior for Providence. He’s averaged at least 15 points per game in each of the previous two seasons.

This is the most obvious fit. Ed Cooley coached Hopkins at Providence, and that’s where the forward had his best season before a knee injury cut things short. Georgetown gives Hopkins a chance to reunite with a coach who already trusts him, in a system he’s familiar with, and on a team that desperately needs a go-to player. The relationship and opportunity line up.
Will Bryce Hopkins Commit to St. John’s?
Rick Pitino isn’t wasting time. He met with Hopkins over Zoom and lined up an official visit immediately. St. John’s just finished a 30-win season and came into March Madness as a #2 seed. Pitino wants to upgrade the roster now, and Hopkins fits the mold. This is probably the most aggressive pitch Hopkins will hear, and it’s working—he’s visiting right after Georgetown.
Is UConn Recruiting Bryce Hopkins?
UConn isn’t out of this. Dan Hurley doesn’t need to chase many portal names, but if there’s mutual interest, Hopkins could be a fit. His size and skill align with how UConn plays. The question is whether there’s enough interest to get a visit on the calendar. Right now, they’re a fallback option at best.
Could Bryce Hopkins Return to Kentucky?
There’s speculation about a return to Lexington, but nothing concrete. Mark Pope might look elsewhere to fill out his first roster. Hopkins never had a major role at Kentucky and may not want to revisit that experience. Still, it’s a big name, and fans will keep it in the mix until it’s ruled out.
