Buster Posey Tells San Francisco Giants Fans To Be Patient With Rafael Devers

The biggest roster move of the first half of the 2025 MLB season was the acquisition of Rafael Devers by the San Francisco Giants. But both sides have gotten off to a rough start over the first month, and team general manager Buster Posey is asking fans to remain patient with their new star talent.

SF Giants GM Asks For Patience With Rafael Devers

After he grew unhappy while playing for the Boston Red Sox, the Giants traded for the 28-year-old three time All-Star on June 15th. At the time, the team was 41-31 and battling for the top position in the tough NL West, and the addition of one of the game’s best bats was a welcomed surprise. At the time, Devers was hitting at a .272 average with an on-base percentage of .401, and was one of the MLB leaders in RBIs.

Things haven’t gone as planned during his first 25 games in San Francisco. With the Giants, Devers is hitting .202, dropping his season average to .255, and has hit just 2 home runs and driven in 10. His struggles have coincided with a rough streak for the team overall, as San Francisco is just 11-14 since the trade.

Buster Posey, who has been mostly applauded for his roster building work in his first year on the job, is asking fans to be patient with Devers. During an appearance on a Bay Area radio talk show, Posey had the following to say about the situation:

“It’s an adjustment period. This guy has been with one his entire life…Devers has been in the big leagues for whatever it’s been, 8 or 9 years. A guy like that it’s only a matter of time before he gets going.”

The Giants are hoping that Devers can figure things out sooner rather than later. After a bounce back streak in which they won 7 out of 9 inched them back to within five games of the Dodgers in the division, they lost the final two contests to their NL West rivals to close out the first half of the season.

As it currently stands, the Giants are in third in the division, six back of the Dodgers and a half game behind the San Diego Padres. They’ll kick the second half of the season off by embarking on a six game road trip in which they’ll take on the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets.
