Caitlin Clark Left Off U.S. Olympic Roster

Clark will not be a part of the U.S. Olympic team that will compete in Paris. Clark has played with USA Basketball at lower levels, including on the U-19 team, which won gold medals at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup in 2019 and 2021.

According to Christine Brennan, “Two other sources, both long-time U.S. basketball veterans with decades of experience in the women’s game, told USA TODAY Sports Friday that concern over how Clark’s millions of fans would react to what would likely be limited playing time on a stacked roster was a factor in the decision making.”

Clark is currently a rookie with the Indiana Fever. The sharpshooter leads all rookies in points per game with 16.8 to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists.

On Friday, Clark led the Fever (3-9) to an 85-83 win over the Washington Mystics (0-11). Clark was terrific, finishing the game with 30 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Clark set a franchise record and tied the league record for most three-pointers made in a game by a rookie with seven.

Clark is arguably the most popular basketball player in America. The 22-year-old is one of the biggest reasons women’s basketball has seen unprecedented growth in the last few seasons.

The Mystics moved Friday night’s game from their usual 4,200-seat arena to the 20,000-plus Capital One arena because of the demand to see Clark. The game was a sell-out.
