Cam Newton Questions Whether Jalen Hurts And The Philadelphia Eagles Would Enjoy The Same Success In The AFC

Cam Newton has taken a pop at Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles by questioning whether they would enjoy the same success if they were in the AFC instead of the NFC.
The former NFL MVP made the comments ahead of Super Bowl 2025, when the Eagles will meet the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.
Former Carolina Panthers star Newton has been vocal in the build-up to the big game which takes place on Sunday, February 9.
This week he insisted he wouldn’t swap his MVP award for a Super Bowl ring.
Now he has questioned the level of competition in the NFC and whether Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles would enjoy the same success if they were in the AFC.
Cam Newton Questions Success Of Jalen Hurt And The Eagles
Cam Newton has questioned whether Jalen Hurts would enjoy the same success if he was in the same conference as other top quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow.
Hurts, a second-round pick in 2020, will be playing in his second Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles lost in their last Super Bowl appearance to the Kansas City Chiefs but won the NFL’s biggest game back in 2017 against the New England Patriots.
Speaking on First Take, Newton said: “I’ve been (receiving) all types of different name-calling because of my game-changing, game-manager viewpoints,” Newton said.
“All of the game-changers are in the AFC. If you put the Philadelphia Eagles or Jalen Hurts in the AFC would he have been able to have gotten to the Super Bowl as many times?
“When you see Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson, that’s must-see TV. When you see Patrick Mahomes vs. Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson or even Joe Burrow, that’s must-see TV, right? What’s must-see TV in the NFC?”

Jalen Hurts’ Record Against AFC Teams
Despite the comments made by Cam Newton, Jalen Hurts has a positive record against teams from the AFC.
As per StatMuse, Hurts has a 15-7-1 record when it comes to matches against sides in that conference since his arrival in the NFL in 2020.
More impressively, since 2022 he has a 14-1 record against teams from the AFC.
Hurts has also enjoyed victories over the four quarterbacks from the AFC that Newton mentions in Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrows, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.
However, the biggest meeting against a side from the AFC during Hurts’ career came at Super Bowl LVII – where Mahomes emerged victorious.
Hurts could go a long way to proving Newton wrong if he can help stop the Chiefs completing a Super Bowl three-peat with the Eagles on February 9.
