The Arizona Cardinals have placed quarterback Kyler Murray on injured reserved, meaning that he’ll miss at least the next month as he rehabs from a foot injury. But given the team’s current situation and the rumors surrounding Murray’s future, there is a chance that he has played his final game in a Cardinals uniform.
Kyler Murray Placed On IR, Out At Least Another Month
A former no.1 overall pick, Murray hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since joining the team in 2019. He’s shown flashes of brilliance that earned him Rookie of the Year honors as well as two Pro Bowl nods, but has failed to win a single playoff game while making only one postseason appearance. He has dealt with injuries over the past few years, and has played in more than 11 games just once since the end of 2021.

Even before the season began, there were thoughts that the end of Kyler Murray’s time in Arizona might be near. And after seeing how the offense has improved in his absence in 2025, the notion has only grown stronger.
Murray hasn’t played in a game since October 5th. While the team has only picked up one victory since, they appear to be an improved product with backup QB Jacoby Brissett.
In Brissett’s three starts, the offense is averaging 357 yards per game, compared to 288 with Murray under center. Brissett’s average of 287 passing yards per contest is nearly 100 yards higher than Murray’s, and the team’s skill position players have had an uptick in production, as well.
Will Arizona Move On From Murray In The Off-Season?
Given the team’s lack of success under his leadership, there is a growing chance that the Cardinals move on from Kyler Murray after this season. The most logical route would be to ship him off via trade, as not to absorb the dead cap hit of nearly $58 million in 2026. There may be a solid market, too, with more than a handful of teams likely looking for quarterback help during the upcoming offseason.

Will he return at all this season? Or was the October 5th game against the Titans Murray’s final dance with the team? With him now being placed on the IR, the earliest that he can return is December 7th. That would give him just a five-game window to close out the season, and it may be unlikely that the team is even in contention at that point. Arizona will play games against the Seahawks, 49ers, Jaguars, and Buccaneers during Murray’s absence.
