CBS Sports announced on Tuesday that JJ Watt will call NFL games alongside Ian Eagle, and Charles Davis will move to calling college football games.

JJ Watt To Become Game Analyst

Watt is moving from the studio to the booth.

CBS Sports is sending Watt to the broadcast booth to call games as an analyst alongside Eagle beginning with the 2025-2026 season. Watt and Eagle will form CBS Network’s No. 2 broadcast team behind Tony Romo and Jim Nantz.

In 2023, Watt joined CBS Sports as a studio analyst on The NFL Today.

“There is nothing better than the energy and excitement of being in the stadium on game day in the NFL,” said Watt in a statement. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to return to that atmosphere each week, working with one of the best in Ian. While I certainly miss delivering hits on the field, it will be nice to leave the stadium without taking any, unless Ian decides to try something crazy.”

Watt is a former three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Selected by the Houston Texans in the 2011 NFL Draft, Watt instantly became one of the NFL’s best defensive ends.

Watt played with two teams in his 12-year NFL career: the Texans (2011-2020) and the Cardinals (2021-2022).

Watt shared a photo of a recent interaction with Eagle. Watt said he’s getting his body right for the booth with a cold plunge. Eagle responded with a picture of bananas and Saratoga water, poking fun at Ashton Hall’s routine.

Charles Davis Moving To College Football After Gary Danielson Retires

Charles Davis, Eagle’s former partner in the booth, will continue to call NFL games for CBS during the 2025-2026 season.

Davis will become CBS Sports’ lead college football analyst beginning with the 2026 season.

Gary Danielson, CBS Sports’ top college football analyst, will retire following the 2025 college football season.

This marks Danielson’s 36th season in television, including his 20th with CBS. Danielson is currently the longest-tenured college football game analyst on any network.

“I have had the greatest seat in the house for 36 years and have loved every minute of it,” said Danielson in a statement. “I have discussed the timing of this moment with CBS Sports leadership over the past few years, and we felt it was important I remained with the team during our transition to the Big Ten.

“As we enter our second full season of Big Ten football and my 20th at CBS Sports, the timing just feels right. I have so much respect for Charles Davis as both a person and an analyst. He is going to shine in this role and fit so well with this team. I have been blessed to work with incredible teammates throughout my career, and I look forward to one more memorable season with Brad, Jenny, Craig Silver, Steve Milton, and the crew.”

Danielson currently works alongside Brad Nessler and reporter Jenny Dell.

Davis joined CBS Sports as an NFL analyst in 2020. Davis previously worked as an NFL analyst at Fox.

Davis has experience in college football, having been an analyst for three consecutive BCS National Championship games between 2007-2009.
