“The Celtics are a way of life,” the late Bill Russell says in the trailer.

Celtics City follows the rise of the Boston Celtics, from the arrival of Red Auerbach and Bill Russell in the 1950s to Larry Bird in the 1980s and Jayson Tatum in the 2010s.

The NBA’s winningest and most storied franchise is coming off its record-breaking 18th NBA championship.

The series interviews some of the franchise’s iconic players, including Bob Cousy, Larry Bird, Robert Parish, Danny Ainge, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Doc Rivers, Kevin McHale, Jaylen Brown, and more.

Celtics City will investigate some of Boston’s most heated rivalries with the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers.

Per HBO, “the series also explores the Celtics’ significance in the ever-changing landscape of Boston – a city with a complex social history impacted by racial tensions that the Celtics, led by figures like Bill Russell, confronted head-on.”
