A color commentator made a few hilarious Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004) references during the fourth quarter of the Boston Celtics’ 119-114 road win over the Miami Heat on Thursday night.
Celtics Guard Anfernee Simons Hits 3-Pointer
While the Celtics were trailing 97-91 with 7:28 remaining in the final frame, Anfernee Simons made an impressive step-back 3-pointer over Kasparas Jakucionis.
As soon as a swish sound was heard, the color commentator said with excitement, “You headbutt the wrong man. No one makes me bleed my own blood. I’m White Goodman. W-H-I-T… E.”

He was referencing the scene when White Goodman (Ben Stiller) went to Kate Veatch’s (Christine Taylor) house “to woo Kate a bit sooner than nature intended” before Peter La Fleur (Vince Vaughn) showed up.
White was done playing games because “there’s no resisting when White Goodman puts on his shiny shoes.”
Boston Rallied Against Heat
The Celtics overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat Miami on Thursday night. It was their second-biggest comeback win of the season, after coming back from 20 points down to beat the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 22.
According to Basketball Reference, that 19-point margin matched the biggest first-quarter deficit that Boston faced in a 304-game span since trailing Indiana by 20 on Dec. 21, 2022.
The Celtics also trailed the Milwaukee Bucks by 19 in the first quarter on April 9, 2024.
In Boston’s win over Miami, Anfernee Simons scored 18 of his season-high 39 points in the fourth quarter, Jaylen Brown finished with 27 points, and Sam Hauser added 17.
Per ESPN Stats & Information, Simons became the fourth Celtics player in the last 50 years to score at least 39 points off the bench, joining Larry Bird, Todd Day, and Payton Pritchard.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla said in November that Simons has been “playing his role really well.”
Through 40 games off the bench this season, Simons is averaging 14.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 24.3 minutes per outing while shooting 44.1% from the field and 40.5% from deep.
The Celtics visit the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night.
