During the second quarter of Sunday’s game, Harris stumbled to the ground while running to the line. The running back immediately grabbed his Achilles and stayed on the ground as the play progressed.
Harris needed to be helped off the field and did not return.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said postgame that preliminary tests revealed Harris suffered an Achilles injury. On Monday, Harbaugh confirmed the season-ending Achilles tear.
It’s been a rough couple of months for Harris. Over the summer, Harris missed training camp and the preseason with an eye injury. Harris’s eye injury was the result of a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July.
Harris carried the ball six times for 28 yards before the injury in the second quarter. Harris ends his 2025 campaign with 15 carries for 61 yards.
Before signing with the Chargers this offseason, Harris, 27, spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The 2021 first-round pick rushed for at least 1,000 yards in his first four seasons. Harris became an Ironman in Pittsburgh, playing in every single regular-season game from 2021 to 2024.
2025 marks the first time Harris will ever miss regular-season games because of injury.
Before the injury, Harris was the second running back behind rookie Omarion Hampton. Harris’ carries were beginning to increase before the Achilles tear.
Hampton will now be the lead back for the rest of the season.
After two mediocre performances to open the season, Hampton rushed for 70 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown in Sunday’s win. Hampton also snagged six receptions for 59 yards.

There is something special brewing in Los Angeles.
The Chargers pulled off a 23-20 comeback victory over the Broncos. Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker nailed a 43-yard field goal to win the game as time expired.
Justin Herbert has been sensational to start the 2025 season. Herbert finished 28 of 47 for 300 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Herbert’s touchdown went to wide receiver Keenan Allen late in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 20.
With the victory, the Chargers are 3-0 for the first time since 2002. All three wins have been against AFC West opponents: Kansas City in Week 1 and Las Vegas in Week 2.
The Chargers (3-0) travel across the country to play the New York Giants (0-3) in Week 4.
