Chargers vs. Dolphins Odds and Predictions

The Chargers can’t catch a break. Just when you think the injury bug might go away, it takes out another key player.

The latest Chargers’ casualty was rookie running back Omarion Hampton, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 5’s 27-10 loss to the Commanders. Hampton is now on injured reserve and will miss a minimum of four games.

In the interim, the Chargers will turn to Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal in the backfield.

The Chargers’ biggest problem is their inability to protect franchise quarterback Justin Herbert, who was sacked five times in Sunday’s loss. The Chargers’ offensive line is 28th-ranked in pass block win rate (51.7%) and 24th-ranked in run block win rate (69.7%).

Joe Alt is currently recovering from an ankle sprain and could miss the Dolphins game. Mekhi Becton is also dealing with a hand injury.

Luckily for the Chargers, the Dolphins boast an average pass rush — 15th in the NFL in pass rush win rate (41%). Miami also has the worst rushing defense (174.2 yards per game) in the NFL.

The Dolphins look like a defeated team after blowing a 17-point lead in the loss to the Carolina Panthers. After going up 17-0 in the second quarter, the Dolphins punted on six of their next seven drives. Miami can’t run the ball right now — 19 rushing yards in Week 5.

Things have gone poorly for the Chargers the last two weeks. Despite the injuries, this feels like a get-right game against the Dolphins. As long as Herbert stays upright, the Chargers should win.

Pick: Chargers -4 (-110)

Chargers vs. Dolphins Prop

As previously mentioned, the Dolphins only rushed for 19 yards in the loss against the Panthers. That’s their lowest total in a game since 2015.

The Dolphins ran the ball eight times on first down against the Panthers. Miami failed to gain a yard before contact on all eight runs.

De’Von Achane has not rushed for over 60 yards since Week 3. I believe that trend will continue against the Chargers.

Pick: De’Von Achane Under 60.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
