Chase Briscoe

Whether Chase Briscoe wins the NASCAR Cup Series championship or not on Sunday at Phoenix Raceway, there’s a party going down in his hometown of Mitchell, Indiana.

Speaking on Thursday, Briscoe — a Championship 4 driver — revealed the details of this festive occasion taking place at his old stomping grounds.

Suffice to say, it’s going to be a major event. And one the residents of Mitchell and the surrounding areas may never forget.

So, What’s Happening In Chase Briscoe’s Hometown?

Arguably the most down-to-earth of the Championship 4 drivers, Chase Briscoe takes a lot of pride in the place he comes from.

And, clearly, the folks who live in the humble hamlet of Mitchell, Indiana are quite proud of him.

It’s evident by what they’re doing Sunday to show their solidarity with the first-year driver of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota as he competes for NASCAR’s top prize.

“My high school is actually opening up the whole gymnasium,” Briscoe said. “The Lawrence County Tourism Board rented an LED TV, or whatever. I don’t know how many people are going to show up. Might be a hundred people, might be 1,500. I don’t know.

“Obviously, the whole city has gotten behind me and this (playoff) run. They were sending me videos today. They lined the entire Main Street up with checkered flags, running a 19 flag at City Hall. So, yeah, it’s pretty cool how into it my city is, for sure.”

According to 2025 World Population Review, Mitchell, Indiana boasts a population of 3,975 people. It seems like the overwhelming majority of them will be assembling this weekend to cheer on the hometown hero as he pursues a taste of NASCAR glory.

“There’s only like 3,000 people there,” Briscoe said, slightly exaggerating the sparsity of the population. “All 3,000 are pretty excited about it. They’re opening up the concession stands, the whole nine yards.”

This is hardly the first time Briscoe has felt the love from his neck of the woods, however.

“My whole career, whether I was even in ARCA or now Cup, just that area has always been a huge supporter of mine,” he said. “I think part of it is everybody kind of knows everybody. The whole city and county has really been getting into it.”

Chase Briscoe Has Come A Long Way With The Folks Back Home

These days, the people who live where Chase Briscoe grew up clearly hold him in high esteem for his accomplishments at the highest level of motorsports.

But Briscoe remembers a time when the natives weren’t nearly as excited about his pursuits as they are today about his racing endeavors.

“They definitely were never going to come during my high school tenure to watch me do anything else,” he said. “I only rode the bench in everything I did.”

Now, Briscoe is ready to chase a NASCAR Cup Series title. He’s certainly thankful to be doing so with a robust fan club in his corner.

“All these other (drivers), I’m sure they have people from their hometown that support them,” Briscoe said. “They’re not from a town of 3,500 people, right? It’s different whenever you come from that small of a town.”

Briscoe’s high school isn’t the only local venue where fans are convening in his honor.

“The American Legion is going to do a watch party, too,” Briscoe said. “I think NBC is sending a camera to the high school to have a live view of it. It’s going to be pretty neat.

“I’ve seen people from literally two, three hours away talking about how they’re going to drive to Mitchell Sunday just to watch. It’s going to be cool to see what the outcome is.”
