NFL: Super Bowl LIX-Kansas City Chiefs Press Conference

The Chicago Bears must build their offensive line to protect QB Caleb Williams better.

New head coach Ben Johnson thrived as the offensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions mostly because of having an excellent offensive line.

Chicago’s offensive line was a major weakness last season.

The Bears are already working to improve the offensive line.

Dianna Russini was the first to report that the Chicago Bears are expected to trade for All-Pro guard Joe Thuney.

Joe Thuney’s Impact On The Chicago Bears

Joe Thuney is a four-time Super Bowl winner. He won two rings with the New England Patriots and two rings with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Thuney is still a high-caliber guard and will turn 33 in November.

He was the only bright spot on the offensive line for the Chiefs last season.

Thuney will help stabilize an offensive line that needs improvement and a leader.

This move will help Caleb Williams tremendously. He will finally have some improved blocking in front of him.

This will also help the run game for the Bears, which was non-existent last season.

The trade for Thuney, which can not be official until the new league year begins, will allow the Bears to not need to draft an offensive lineman in round one of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Chicago may indeed opt to draft an offensive lineman in the first round to further boost the position and protect their young QB better.

Can The Bears Make The Playoffs In 2025?

With an improved offense, the Chicago Bears can make the playoffs next season.

Their offense hurt the team last year. They had no rush attack and Williams was under constant pressure.

The defense was fairly good for the Bears.

Thuney immediately improves the offensive line. They also have the 10th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft and may select another offensive lineman to further boost the position.

Chicago is in a prime position this offseason to vastly improve their roster. They seem to be well on their way when the Thuney trade is made official.
