Chris Buescher

NASCAR Cup Series driver Chris Buescher will be pulling double-duty this weekend at Watkins Glen International.

But Buescher won’t be making a cameo return to his old stomping grounds — the NASCAR Xfinity Series — on top of his regular Cup Series duties with RFK Racing.

No, for the first time in his career, Buescher will compete in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.

So, What’s The Plan For Chris Buescher At Watkins Glen?

As much as Chris Buescher might prefer to compete in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, given the success he once enjoyed in NASCAR’s No. 2 division where he’s the 2015 champion, he’s nevertheless excited about going truck racing for the first time.

And Buescher won’t be in just any truck. It’ll be a Ford F-150 fielded by fabled ThorSport Racing. The Sandusky, Ohio-based outfit is the longest-tenured Truck Series organization, having competed since 1996. More importantly, though, ThorSport is a perennial championship contender. In fact, its drivers have won six truck championships and 28 races over the years.

How good are Thorsport Racing’s trucks? Good enough that now-three-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano drove one when making a Truck Series cameo in 2023. And guess what? In that race — held on the dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway — Logano went to Victory Lane.

Combine the power of Thorsport with the fact that Buescher is the most recent Cup Series winner at Watkins Glen, and it’s no wonder that Buescher is amped to be jumping behind the wheel of a No. 66 ThorSport vehicle for Friday’s truck race at the 2.45-mile road course.

“Watkins Glen has been a special place for me, especially after last year’s win,” Buescher said. “So, I’m really looking forward to getting back there. It’s a great place for me to make my first-ever Truck Series start. And I’m thankful for (ThorSport Racing co-owners) Duke, Rhonda and Allison Thorson for giving me the opportunity to do so.”

Absence Of Any Previous Truck Starts A Shocking Stat For Former Xfinity Champ

It’s almost mind-blowing to think that Friday will mark Chris Buescher’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut.

After all, the six-time Cup Series race winner and former Xfinity Series champ has competed full time in either the Cup or Xfinity series since 2014.

But never has Buescher suited up for a race in the Truck Series, which most observers consider to be NASCAR’s No. 3 division. Understandably, the 32-year-old native of Prosper, Texas can’t wait to erase that statistic this weekend at The Glen.
