Chris Godwin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is coming off a season-ending dislocated ankle in Week 7. Will Godwin sign a new contract with the Bucs?

Chris Godwin Moves Void Date To March

Godwin does not have a contract with the Bucs. However, he pushed back the void date to allow more time to negotiate a new contract.

Godwin’s void date of his original contract was set to void on February 17. This would have triggered around $19 million in dead cap for the Bucs’ 2025 cap.

Godwin and the Bucs have agreed to change the void date to March 12.

March 12 is the day the NFL’s new league year begins.

Godwin is under contract until March 12. This means the Bucs cannot use the franchise tag on the star wide receiver because the window to tag a player closes on March 4.

Godwin will become an unrestricted free agent if he and the Bucs cannot come to terms when the new league year begins on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET.

Godwin was thriving under Liam Coen’s offense in 2024. Godwin had a league-leading 50 receptions before his injury. The 28-year-old also had 576 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions.

Chris Godwin Will Have Plenty Of Suitors If He Becomes A Free Agent

The Bucs offense was excellent in 2024, ranking third in yards per game (399.5), third in passing yards per game (260.4), and fourth in points per game (29.5).

Godwin plays a huge role in the offense, providing Baker Mayfield with an excellent option in the slot.

If the Bucs and Godwin do not come to terms on a deal, the talented wide receiver will have plenty of suitors.

With the recent news that the Bengals plan to tag Tee Higgins, Godwin jumps to the top of the ranks for available wide receivers.

The New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, and Tennessee Titans will all be in the market for wide receivers.
