Chris Paul Passes Jason Kidd On NBA All-Time Steals List

Chris Paul continues to put his mark on the NBA record books. On Thursday, the San Antonio Spurs guard moved into second place on the all-time steals list, surpassing Jason Kidd.
Chris Paul Now With 2nd Most Steals In NBA History
Paul’s most productive days are certainly behind him, but his consistency and longevity have allowed him to run up his numbers. Last season, he eclipsed Kidd on the all-time assists list, moving into second place, and will likely finish within the top 40 of the all-time points list despite averaging just 17 per game over the course of his career.
While playing for the Suns in 2022-23, Paul passed Michael Jordan in steals. The year prior, he eclipsed Gary Payton. He’s been chasing Kidd ever since, now sitting at 2,685 with 28 games remaining in the current season. It took Kidd 1,391 games to reach his total. Paul did it in 66 fewer.
A historical theft for CP3 👏

It is highly unlikely that Chris Paul will ever catch the great John Stockton. There is now a 580 steal gap between the two on the all-time list, meaning that the 39-year-old Paul would have to average his usual 2.1 steals per game for 277 more games. He may not retire after 2024-25, but it is hard to see him playing in the NBA for three more years.
Paul is playing for his third team in as many seasons, and is on a one/year deal with the Spurs. San Antonio is 24-29, and are 3 games behind the 10th and final Play-In spot in the Western Conference, and lost budding superstar Victor Wembanyama for the season on Thursday.
Paul is averaging 9.2 points and 8.1 assists in 2024-25.
