Manchester City vs Tottenham

Former Celtic star Chris Sutton has predicted there will be plenty of goals for us to enjoy when Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur lock horns in the Premier League this week. Sutton believes that although Man City are going through a rough patch, they will overcome Tottenham in the upcoming clash and seal a 3-1 win.

Manchester City Is In Unchartered Territory

Under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has been the most dominant team in the Premier League, winning the title a whopping six times since 2016. They have obliterated the competition more often than not, emerging as the first English team in history to win the title in four consecutive seasons.

Things, however, have looked a bit different this time around, with Man City going through their worst rough patch under Guardiola. The 2022-23 Treble winners have lost their last four games in all competitions, with their latest setback coming away at Brighton & Hove Albion (2-1 defeat) on November 9.

Chris Sutton Backs Man City to Bounce Back Against Tottenham Hotspur

Instead of escaping from the doom and gloom, Guardiola has signed a new contract with Man City, and Sutton believes it will help the club overcome Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday’s (November 23) clash.

In his BBC column, Sutton wrote:

It’s safe to say Pep Guardiola has severely irritated the rest of the footballing public by agreeing his contract extension with Manchester City. You can just imagine the groans from Liverpool, north London and the red half of Manchester, because they know how dominant City have been under him.

City are not playing well at the moment, which is why they are on this run of four straight defeats in all competitions. People have been looking at them as if the wheels are coming off, but they are still second and only five points off the top. I do think Pep’s new deal will give them a boost, and I am expecting them to bounce back.

He concluded by adding:

Tottenham have also been described as a ‘crisis club’ this season but they are still only three points off third place.

The table is so congested that anyone in mid-table who wins a couple of games in a row is going to be right up there, but I don’t see Spurs getting anything at the Etihad Stadium. There will be goals in this game because Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will not change his approach. He has already beaten City once this season, in the Carabao Cup, but I think Pep will come out on top this time.”

Sutton’s prediction: Man City 3-1 Tottenham

Man City is in second place in the Premier League rankings with 23 points, sitting five points adrift of league leaders Liverpool. Spurs, meanwhile, are in 10th place with 16 points to their name.
