João Fonseca Makes History at Wimbledon as Youngest Man to Reach Third Round Since 2011

It is the second consecutive tournament that Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was forced to retire during the match. The Mubadala Citi Open finalist who made it to the fourth round last week in Toronto had a sizeable lead of 7-6 and 4-0 when he started to visibly struggle.

The Cincinnati Open has been a steamy one already. It is averaging 90 degrees with considerable humidity. Davidovich Fokina was playing the smarter match in the outset with the Brazilian teen Joao Fonseca making unforced errors and playing himself out of the match.

It is not clear what specifically was afflicting Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, but hopefully he gets rest and figures it out before the US Open. He has been playing spectacular tennis in this summer’s hardcourt series.

Madison Keys And Emma Raducanu Win

Madison Keys was able to overcome the heat and a deficit against Eva Lys, including match points against her, for the second straight tournament and the fourth tournament of the year.

Keys calls the revamped Cincinnati Open grounds “the Disneyland of tennis” and told Tennis Channel’s Prakash Amritraj that it is not necessarily a good thing that she has been coming from behind when he complimented her play.

Emma Raducanu earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Olga Danilovic. She also mentioned the oppressive heat as a condition that has to be factored in. Raducanu won an amazing 73% of her second serve points in the win. She awaits the winner of the Aryna Sabalenka and Marketa Vondrousova match.

Raducanu is playing for success in Cincinnati as well as trying to earn a seed in the upcoming US Open. She is currently ranked 33rd in the WTA live rankings. The top 32 players will get seeded in New York.

The Cincinnati Open runs through Monday, August 19. The newly revamped grounds are the result of a $260 million renovation that happened in the past year.
