Cito Gaston’s World Series Game 1 Appearance Brought Back Bad Memories For Orioles Fans

It is hard being a Baltimore Orioles fan. That is especially true during the 2025 World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers. It got more gut-wrenching when ex-Jays manager Cito Gaston threw out the first pitch in Game 1.

Gaston is 81 years old and looks great. He won back-to-back World Series championships with the Blue Jays in 1992 and 1993.

However, Orioles fans associate him with the equally legendary mantra of “Cito Sucks.”

Why Orioles Fans Do Not Like Cito Gaston?

Gaston was the 1993 All Star Game manager who decided not to play then 24-year-old Baltimore Orioles ace Mike Mussina in the game at Camden Yards. Orioles fans were enraged and started the “Cito Sucks” chant.

It was a movement that extended well beyond that game with tshirts and the greeting shared with Cito Gaston anytime the Jays came to Camden Yards.

Later Gaston said Mussina showed “little class” when he took it upon himself to get up and begin warming up in the bullpen during the latter stages of the game.

Ex-Orioles Pitcher Seranthony Dominguez Is World Series Game 1 Winner

Dealing with a 2025 stinker season after making the playoffs in 2023 and 2024 and not winning a single postseason game are still fresh memories for Baltimore faithful.

Fans got to see their former pitcher, Seranthony Dominguez, get the win for the Jays in Game 1. Dominguez was traded in July while the Orioles were playing a doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

Hopefully, there will be less trigger points for Orioles fans as the World Series commences to Game 2 on Saturday night, October 25.
