The Cleveland Browns released new artist renderings of a potential new stadium, one that the team’s owners have committed $2 billion into building.
Browns Release Renders For New Stadium In Cleveland
The Browns have been playing in the same stadium that they have since they made their return to Cleveland in 1999. Huntington Bank Field is the 12th oldest stadium in the NFL, and was constructed on the same site that Cleveland Municipal sat on, which was in existence from 1931 until 1996.
But it appears that Jimmy Haslam is committed to building a new home for his franchise. The team released a statement and a video on Tuesday morning, showing and detailing the plans for a new home for the Browns that will include a domed roof. It would be built in Brook Park, about a17-mile drive from the current location on the shore of Lake Erie, though no more than a mile outside of Cleveland’s city limits.

There are unique features planned, which include a transparent roof that will allow for natural light. The new digs will fix issues that fans have dealt with at the previous site, which include the ease of accessibility to the stadium, as well as a new parking system. Perhaps borrowing from the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and their new arena, the Browns are planning on building a “Fan Wall” in order to seat their biggest fans and attempt to intimidate opponents.
There is no official price tag yet for the project, but the Haslam’s and the Browns are reportedly set to commit $2 billion in private funding in order to build the facilities. There are still plenty of hoops to jump through and legal matters to attend to, so there is no projected date for either groundbreaking or for when it would possibly open to the public.
The new stadium would be a multipurpose venue, and would be built in an advantageous location. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is directly across the freeway from the proposed site, which would make coming and going a breeze for those attending events.
