Jayden Daniels runs into the end zone.

The Washington Commanders exceeded all expectations this year behind rookie sensation Jayden Daniels.

They won 12 games after winning four last year and defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20 in the wild-card round. Jayden Daniels had 268 passing yards, two passing TDs, and added 36 rushing yards. Terry McLaurin had seven catches, 89 receiving yards, and one receiving TD. Dyami Brown had five catches, 89 receiving yards, and one receiving TD. The defense held Baker Mayfield to only 185 passing yards after he averaged 264.7 passing yards per game during the season. Washington dominated the time of possession. The Commanders had the ball for 35:26 while the Bucs had the ball for 24:34.

Washington’s defense played well against the Bucs but they will face an entirely different beast in the Detroit Lions offense in the Divisional round.

Below, we discuss if the Commanders can pull off the upset against the Detroit Lions.

Commanders Face Lions In Divisional Round

No team was as consistent as the Detroit Lions this season. One of their two losses occurred in week 2. They have lost just one other game since then, a 48-42 loss against the Buffalo Bills. Detroit’s offense was spectacular this season. The Lions ranked first in points per game, second in passing yards per game, and sixth in rushing yards per game.

However, Detroit’s defense though was decimated by injuries all season. This is one area the Commanders can exploit.

The Commanders ended the season on a five-game winning streak and won in the wild-card round. Four of their five losses during the season were one-score games.

Detroit’s offense may be too much for the Commanders to handle. It will be challenging for Washington to put up the defensive performance they did against the Bucs against the Lions.

Washington opens as the biggest underdog of the Divisional round. The Commanders have had an excellent season, but they are outmatched against a stout Lions team.
