Jacksonville Jaguars, QB Trevor Lawrence Agree to Five-Year, $275M Contract Deal

Trevor Lawrence was highly touted as the next great QB when he was drafted with the first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Since that time, Lawrence has won the AFC South just once and won only one playoff game.

Drafted sixth overall in 2019, Daniel Jones has not won a division title, but earned one playoff win during his tenure in New York.

The similarities do not end there. Let’s compare both QBs through 60 career starts.

Lawrence and Jones Have Similar Career Numbers

The numbers of both QBs are similar to this point in their respective careers, though the perception of each quarterback differs greatly.

Lawrence is widely viewed as a potential franchise quarterback who has been forced to deal with a revolving carousel of coaches in Jacksonville. He has had three NFL head coaches and three different offensive coordinators in five NFL seasons.

Similarly, Jones had to deal with a new offensive system nearly every year as a member of the New York Giants. Now a member of the Indianapolis Colts,  Jones is now working with his fourth head coach and fifth offensive coordinator in his seventh NFL season.

Here is a comparison of the two QBs.

Category Trevor Lawrence Daniel Jones
Record 22-38 22-37-1
Total Yards 14,898 14,605
Pass TD/INT 69/46 62/42
Passer Rating 85.0 84.3
Completion % 63.3% 64.0%

Daniel Jones has a better winning percentage and higher completion percentage than Lawrence.

Passing yards, pass TD/INT ratio, and passer rating are very similar, which will likely come as a surprise to most NFL fans.

One would think comparing Trevor Lawrence and Daniel Jones is laughable, but they have had a similar career through 60 NFL starts.

Trevor Lawrence Needs A Big 2025 Season

Lawrence is arguably under the most pressure to perform in 2025.

After getting a big payday, Lawrence needs to prove he is worth it.

Jacksonville has done everything to help him be successful. They hired Liam Coen to be the head coach. The Jags traded up in the 2025 NFL Draft to select WR Travis Hunter.

There is no reason for Lawrence not to have a big 2025 season.

If he once again does not lead the Jags to the playoffs, this will raise massive questions within the organization about Lawrence.

How Will Jacksonville Perform In 2025?

Trevor Lawrence was injured last season and missed significant time. His return, as well as having WR Brian Thomas Jr and rookie WR Travis Hunter to throw to, will vastly improve the offense.

New Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen will run a much better offensive scheme, which will be tailored to Lawrence’s strengths.

With an improved offense, the Jaguars defense will also improve.

The Jaguars will sneak up on teams this season and could find their way back into the postseason.

There is a lot of pressure this season, but all indications are that Lawrence will step up and play well.
