After a 116-114 loss on the road on Thursday to the Jazz, the Mavericks are 14-24 through 38 games. That is 11th in the Western Conference. Rookie Cooper Flagg led the team in scoring with 26 vs. Utah.
Additionally, Flagg added 10 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block—an impressive night to say the least. Despite the loss on Thursday, Cooper Flagg made Dallas Mavericks history. He joins his head coach, Jason Kidd, and Luka Doncic as the only rookies in franchise history with 25+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists, and 3+ steals in a game.

Ahead of the 2025 NBA draft lottery, the Mavericks had just a 1.8% chance at the #1 overall pick. However, Dallas struck gold and somehow landed the #1 pick in the 2025 draft. Allowing them to select consensus All-American Cooper Flagg out of Duke. The Mavericks suddenly had a player they could rebuild the team around after trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers months prior. Through the first 37 games of his rookie season, Cooper Flagg is living up to expectations.
On Thursday night vs. the Jazz, Cooper Flagg finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block. That was not enough to lift Dallas to a win, but it was a strong individual effort from Flagg. Unfortunately, that has been a major storyline for the team in 2025-26. Anthony Davis cannot stay healthy, and the team is still eagerly waiting for Kyrie Irving to make his season debut. The team is 10 games under .500, roughly halfway through the year.

Against the Jazz, Cooper Flagg made Mavericks franchise history. He is just the second rookie with 25+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists, and 3+ steals in a game. Jason Kidd and Luka Doncic are the other Mavs rookies to record that statline. Strong company for Cooper Flagg early in his professional career.
While the team’s success has not been consistent in 2025-26, Cooper Flagg is off to a strong start in his rookie campaign. In 37 starts, he is averaging 19.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Flagg has scored 20+ points for Dallas in 12 of his last 18 games. The rookie has been playing at a high level sicne the start of December. Cooper Flagg has the third-most games with 25/5/5 as a teenager in NBA history. Only LeBron James and Luka Doncic have more. Flagg will be a until December 2026.
