Ahead of the 2025 NBA draft lottery, the Mavericks had just a 1.8% chance at the #1 overall pick. However, Dallas struck gold and somehow landed the #1 pick in the 2025 draft. Allowing them to select consensus All-American Cooper Flagg out of Duke. The Mavericks suddenly had a player they could rebuild the team around after trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers months prior. Through the first 37 games of his rookie season, Cooper Flagg is living up to expectations.

While the team’s success has not been consistent in 2025-26, Cooper Flagg is off to a strong start in his rookie campaign. In 37 starts, he is averaging 19.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Flagg has scored 20+ points for Dallas in 12 of his last 18 games. The rookie has been playing at a high level sicne the start of December. Cooper Flagg has the third-most games with 25/5/5 as a teenager in NBA history. Only LeBron James and Luka Doncic have more.
