The Mavericks started the 2025-26 season poorly. However, the team is 5-5 in their last 10 and has won three straight. Dallas is 8-15 after their first 23 games.
That includes a 118-108 win at home on Wednesday vs. the Heat. Rookie Cooper Flagg led the team with 22 points. He also added six rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. That was Flagg’s third consecutive game with 20+ points for the Mavericks. On X, Real Sports posted that Cooper Flagg is the youngest player in NBA history with three straight 20+ point performances. He was younger than LeBron James when the four-time champion accomplished that feat.

With the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, the Mavericks selected Cooper Flagg out of Duke. Similarly, LeBron James was the first overall pick by the Cavaliers in 2003. In college, Flagg was a consensus All-American and was named National Player of the Year. That is an added level of pressure for Flagg to live up to. He had a fantastic collegiate career. However, analysts questioned whether he could do the same in the NBA.
Over the first five games of his career, Cooper Flagg was inconsistent. While he had a 22-point outing in his third game, he followed that up with just two points in his next contest. Luckily, Flagg was able to shake off the rocky start and has found his footing with Dallas. In his last 17 games, Flagg has scored 20+ points seven times.

That includes each of his last three games for the Mavericks. He had a career-high 35 points on November 29 vs. the Clippers. According to Real Sports, Cooper Flagg is the youngest player in NBA history with 20+ points in three straight games. The 2025 first overall pick was younger than LeBron James when he accomplished that feat.
Cooper Flagg is benefiting greatly from Anthony Davis’return to the lineup. He’s another legitimate threat the defense has to worry about. That’s allowed Flagg to see a few more open shots than he’s used to over the last four games. Davis and Flagg have only played a small sample size of games together. The returns so far are promising. Who knows what Dallas could look like when 2014 #1 overall pick Kyrie Irving makes his season debut?
