Earlier this week we talked about Rasmus Andersson being traded by the Calgary Flames at some point this season and the fact that one team that could be interested are the Toronto Maple Leafs. Well, one more team that could be in the Andersson mix are the Dallas Stars.
The Stars always like defensemen, but an interesting name has recently emerged as a possible trade partner. Could the Stars actually consider parting ways with their All-Star left winger Jason Robertson of Arcadia, California, who has had 269 points over the last three seasons?
Robertson is in the final year of a contract where he is set to earn $7.75 million. He will probably get a raise but are the Stars willing to trade Robertson to improve their defense?
What forwards are the Stars committed to long term?
Dallas is already committed long term to right winger Mikko Rantanen of Nousiainen, Finland (making $60 million through 2029-30), left winger Roope Hintz of Tampere, Finland (making $42.25 million through 2029-30), and centre Wyatt Johnston of Toronto, Ontario (making $42 million through 2029-30). Now Stars general manager Jim Nill will have to evaluate his team and decide how he wants to tinker this club going forward.
One question would be if Andersson would be part of a part of a package for Robertson or be traded all by himself. Due to the fact Andersson took a step back last season (was a team worst -38), one would think that he would be traded among a packaged deal to the Stars. Do not be surprised if any trade was to emerge that the Stars would also receive a first round draft pick.
Flames like American forwards
The Flames have a history of having American forwards in their lineup. The list includes the late Johnny Gaudreau of Salem, New Jersey, Joey Mullen of New York, New York, Matthew Tkachuk of Scottsdale, Arizona, Joel Otto of Elk River, Minnesota, and their current general manager Craig Conroy of Potsdam, New York. In order to include Robertson to the mix, he will probably want a contract north of $10 million. With the salary cap increasing, the Flames could afford the Stars all-star.
Robertson in 2024-25
We already had a look at Andersson’s statistics earlier this week. Now it is time to take a look at Robertson’s stats from this past year. In 82 games this past season, Robertson had 35 goals and 45 assists for 80 points. He was a +10 with 18 penalty minutes, 19 power-play points, six game-winning goals, 211 shots on goal, seven faceoff wins, 45 blocked shots, 60 hits, 24 takeaways, and 92 giveaways.
