Dallas Cowboys tackle Tyler Guyton stands up.

The Dallas Cowboys have provided injury updates for cornerback Caelen Carson and offensive tackle Tyler Guyton.

Caelen Carson Suffers Knee Injury

The Cowboys will be without one of their cornerbacks for at least the next month.

Per ESPN’s Todd Archer, Carson suffered a hyperextended knee during Sunday’s practice. The injury will keep him out for the next four to six weeks, but it could increase to two months.

The recovery timeline knocks Carson out for the rest of the preseason and most of training camp. The Cowboys open up the season in Philadelphia on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The Cowboys selected Carson in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The second-year pro was expected to contribute in the Cowboys’ secondary this season.

Carson’s injury is another setback for an already-thin secondary. Trevon Diggs and Josh Butler are on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to start the season. Meanwhile, third-round pick Shavon Revel is on the non-football injury (NFI) list.

All-Pro DaRon Bland and Kaiir Elam are slated to be the starting cornerbacks in Week 1.

In need of more depth, the Cowboys signed cornerback Christian Matthew. The seventh-round draft pick in 2022 played for the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, and Baltimore Ravens.

Matthew has some familiarity with the Cowboys’ coaching staff. Matthew played for former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus in Chicago.

Tyler Guyton Injury Presents Questions For The Offensive Line

Not all injuries are created equal. The Dallas Cowboys must be relieved to learn that Guyton’s injury is a bone fracture, not an ACL tear.

Guyton suffered a bone fracture that will not require surgery. The recovery timeline is four to six weeks. Had Guyton torn his ACL, he would have missed the entire season.

The Guyton injury came shortly after guard Rob Jones suffered a neck fracture that put him out for two to three months.

The Cowboys took Guyton in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft to be their left tackle of the future.

There is a chance Guyton could be ready for Week 1. If he’s not ready, the Cowboys have several options to replace Guyton. Nathan Thomas, Hakeen Adeniji, and Asim Richards are three names to keep an eye on as temporary replacements for Guyton.

The Cowboys could also move All-Pro Tyler Smith from left guard to left tackle. Dallas would then have to replace Smith at guard.
