If Brian Flores does not re-sign with the Minnesota Vikings, the Dallas Cowboys are lurking as a team interested in the defensive coordinator’s services.
Brian Flores to Dallas?
Although the Vikings are working to retain DC Brian Flores, Mike Florio of @ProFootballTalk noted that there is “increasing chatter in league circles” that the Cowboys “will be firmly in play for Flores”.
Florio also mentioned Flores “Belichickian style hasn’t always meshed with… https://t.co/XVeY1Xa4xh pic.twitter.com/PRryfxf8aX

Flores could be on the move following the 2025 season.
Per Pro Football Talk, the Cowboys are interested in hiring Flores as the team’s next defensive coordinator. Flores’ contract expires following the 2025 season, making him a free agent.
The Vikings hold exclusive rights to negotiate with Flores until the contract expires. After that, Flores is free to sign with any team.
Dallas’ current defensive coordinator is Matt Eberflus. However, Erblus is likely to be fired at the end of the season for a defense that ranks 30th in total defense (376.8 yards per game), 31st in scoring (29.8 points per game), and 32nd in pass defense (253.6 yards per game).
Per PFT, “The increasing chatter in league circles is that the Cowboys will be firmly in play for Flores.”
If Flores gets a head coaching job, then none of this matters. Flores should be a name mentioned for multiple head coaching vacancies.
If Flores does not get a head coaching job, the Cowboys will be in play to hire the Vikings DC and make him one of the league’s highest-paid defensive coordinators.
Minnesota Wants to Retain Brian Flores
“I absolutely want Brian Flores to be the Defensive Coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings as long as we can have him” – Head Coach Kevin O’Connell on Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores pic.twitter.com/sVff1xRRAq

If Flores leaves, it’s not because the Vikings don’t want him. Coach Kevin O’Connell hopes to retain Flores as the team’s defensive coordinator.
“Flo knows I love him,” O’Connell said. “He was the guy three years ago that I identified to bring in here, and the growth and just our relationship and what he’s meant to me personally is so massive. And that’s not even taking into account what he’s been able to do defensively for our team and been such a huge part of helping us daily, minute to minute, kind of weather the different storms we had to navigate this year. Yeah, things are in a really positive place right now. I absolutely want Brian Flores to be the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings as long as we can have him.”
Since Flores became the defensive coordinator in 2023, the Vikings have boasted one of the league’s best and most aggressive defenses.
This season, the Vikings rank 3rd against the pass (168.8 yards per game) and 5th in total defense (292.7 yards per game). Before Week 17, the Vikings ranked first in blitz rate (46.8%).
Flores painted his masterpiece on Christmas Day. The Vikings forced six turnovers in their 23-10 win over the Detroit Lions. The Vikings held the Lions’ potent rushing attack to 68 yards on the day.
