Giants QB Depth Chart: Will Daniel Jones Be Benched?
The New York Giants (0-1) are at a crossroads with quarterback Daniel Jones. Will the former first-round pick be benched for another quarterback?
Will Daniel Jones Be Benched?
Daniel Jones was pressured on 18 dropbacks yesterday according to PFF.
PFF had him responsible for 38.9% (7) of those pressures — the 3rd-highest rate in the NFL. And 3 sacks (highest).

Jones had a rough day in the Giants’ 28-6 Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings (1-0).
Jones completed 22 of 42 passes for 186 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Jones’ second interception was returned for a touchdown by the defense.
Beyond the numbers, Jones did not look comfortable in the pocket, as he came up short on several throws and missed open receivers.
With Jones’ struggles, will head coach Brian Daboll bench his starting quarterback? When asked if the team would consider bringing in another quarterback to compete with Jones, Daboll emphatically said, “Nope.” (via SNY)
Jones heard a lot of boos from fans at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. For now, Jones remains confident he can produce on the field.
“I feel like I’ve been doubted plenty for a long time and dealt with that time and time again. And done a good job with it,” Jones said on Wednesday via SNY. “I think my mental toughness is in a good spot. I’m not concerned about that.”

If Daboll goes in another direction at quarterback and benches Jones, who will replace him?
Drew Lock is currently the leading candidate to replace Jones. The Giants signed Lock to a one-year, $5 million contract this offseason.
In 2019, Lock was drafted by the Denver Broncos to eventually become their starting quarterback. Despite showing promise in his first season, Lock went 4-9 as a starter in 2020. After three seasons, the Seattle Seahawks acquired Lock in the Russell Wilson trade.
After not starting a game in 2022, Lock went 1-1 as a starter, which included a memorable comeback victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. Lock executed a 92-yard scoring drive, capped off with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 28 seconds left to win 20-17.
The other option on the Giants quarterback depth chart is Tommy DeVito. “Tommy Cutlets” went 3-3 as the starter in 2023, which included a sensational victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.
