Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Jones and the Colts have agreed to a one-year, $14 million contract, with $13.15 million guaranteed.

The contract could be worth up to $17.17 million, with incentives tied to playing time, wins, and playoff appearances.

Jones was debating re-signing with the Minnesota Vikings, the team that signed him in November after the Giants released him.

However, all signs point to J.J. McCarthy starting in Minnesota. Knowing McCarthy had the inside track at the starting position, Jones elected to sign with Indianapolis and compete with Anthony Richardson for QB1.

The New York Giants selected Jones with the sixth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Jones became the successor to two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning.

After some struggles in his first three seasons, Jones played his best football in 2022 under first-year head coach Brian Daboll. Jones threw for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Daboll also unleashed Jones’ running ability, as the quarterback rushed for 708 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Giants snuck into the playoffs at 9-6-1 and pulled off an upset road victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round.

Jones was rewarded with a four-year, $160 million contract extension for his efforts.

The playoff win would mark the peak of Jones’ tenure with the Giants. After injuries cost him the 2023 season, Jones was benched after 10 starts (2-8 record) in 2024.

With the Giants, Jones finished with 14,582 passing yards, 2,179 rushing yards, 70 passing touchdowns, 47 interceptions, and 15 rushing touchdowns.

Jones heads to Indianapolis to compete with Richardson for the starting quarterback.

In response to the Jones signing, Richardson’s agent, Deiric Jackson, told Pelissero that his client “will be ready to roll.”

Richardson, the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has not panned out and proved he can be the Colts’ franchise quarterback. While his running ability remains impressive, Richardson is plagued by accuracy issues (47.7% completion percentage in 2024) and turnovers (12 interceptions in 2024).

Colts general manager Chris Ballard told reporters at the Scouting Combine that the organization wants to create a quarterback competition, believing it would be “good for Anthony.”
