De’Aaron Fox Trade Rumors: Spurs, Timberwolves Among Top Destinations For Kings’ Star

De’Aaron Fox might be leaving Sacramento earlier than originally thought. His contract is set to expire after next season, and he refused to sign an extension this last summer, which raised serious questions about his future with the Kings and in the city that drafted him. But we may reach a conclusion far sooner than that, as it has been reported that the team is taking calls on potential trade offers for their star point guard.
Which Teams Could Make An Offer For De’Aaron Fox?
There should be no shortage of teams that are interested in bringing in one of the fastest guys in the league who is just hitting his prime at 27 years old. The Kings will most certainly have options and trade packages to pick from, and should be working the phones in the coming days looking for the best possible return for a player of Fox’s caliber.

Who are the teams that could be interested in bringing in De’Aaron Fox before the trade deadline? Here are three potential options:
San Antonio Spurs
When the initial report regarding Fox was tweeted out by Shams Charania, it was mentioned that the player had a destination in mind for where he might want to play. Multiple outlets reported that the mystery team was the San Antonio Spurs, and they may very well be the front-runners.
Trading for De’Aaron Fox would give the Spurs their 1-2 punch combo for the future. He would be teaming up with Victor Wembanyama for years to come, which would make San Antonio contenders in the Western Conference. They have young pieces on their roster that they could trade in order to get a deal done, and have multiple first round picks in each of the next two drafts.
Houston Rockets
As long as Fox trade rumors have been floating around, the Rockets have been one of the teams mentioned. The star guard is originally from Houston, and there are assumptions that he would like to go and play for his hometown team.
But would the Rockets be eager to make such a drastic move at the current time? They are perhaps the biggest surprise of the 2024-25 NBA season, currently sitting in second place in the West with a record of 31-14. They have enough tradable assets to make a deal work, though they may not be desperate enough to pull the trigger before the trade deadline next week.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Conversely, the Timberwolves have been one of the more disappointing teams this year. Could they look to make a trade at the deadline in order to improve their current roster and attempt to make another deep playoff run?
The team has Mike Conley as their starting point guard, but De’Aaron Fox would mark a significant upgrade at the position. It is unlikely that Minnesota would have the necessary compensation that Sacramento would be looking for, but a package starting with Rob Dillingham and future draft picks might be enough to get the job done.
