Dolphins Rumors: Tua Tagovailoa Could Be Replaced By End Of 2025

The Miami Dolphins made a major change in their front office this week when they fired long time general manager Chris Grier. And there could be another substantial shift coming on the playing field in the coming weeks, as there are now reports of a “chance” that Miami replaces Tua Tagovailoa before the end of the current campaign.

Could The Dolphins Bench Tua Tagovailoa In 2025?

Things have not gone in the way the Dolphins had hoped in 2025. There were major questions surrounding the team during the offseason, with their leadership and toughness being doubted across the league. They’ve done nothing to dispel those notions during the first half of the season, struggling on the field and enduring turmoil off of it on their way to a 2-7 record.

Fans have been calling for Grier’s job for years now, and they finally got their wish on Friday. While the disappointment of the early season still lingers, there is a new breath of hope surrounding the team for the future. Given his regression, it appears that Tagovailoa may not be a big part of Miami’s future, and NFL insider Ian Rapoport shed some light on that situation on Sunday.

In an article on NFL.com, Rapoport highlighted Tagovailoa’s struggles so far in 2025. And while he stated that the 6th-year QBs play would have to “really fall off” in order for the Dolphins to bench him, the possibility should not be discounted.

Tagovailoa’s Regression Is A Huge Issue For Miami

It is quite the fall from grace for Tagovailoa. After leading the league in passer rating in 2022 and in yards in 2023, he has played well below the $212 million value that Miami placed on him, and is currently the league leader in interceptions.

No more than 15 months ago, the Dolphins thought that Tua Tagovailoa was their signal caller of the future, and paid him as such. Now, there is a chance that he gets benched for either Zach Wilson or rookie Quinn Ewers before all is said and done.

Miami will take the field again in Week 10 when they face off against the division rival Buffalo Bills. They’ll then travel to Madrid, Spain for their international contest against the Washington Commanders, which will be followed by a bye week.
