Drake Throws DeMar DeRozan Jersey Off Stage In Continued Beef

Toronto-based rapper Drake has made plenty of headlines over the past nine months, and mostly for the wrong reasons. He has been on the losing end of one of the more infamous rap battles and beefs of all time during his feud with Kendrick Lamar, and is apparently upset with anyone that is affiliated with the Super Bowl Halftime headliner. On Sunday night, he made a statement by angrily throwing d jersey off of the stage during a performance.
Drake Still Holding Onto Beef With DeMar DeRozan
DeRozan is far removed from his playing days with the Toronto Raptors. He played the first nine seasons of his NBA career there, becoming an All-Star as well as an All-NBA member, and was the face of the franchise before being traded away in exchange for Kawhi Leonard in 2018. He has played for three other franchises since then, including his current team, the Sacramento Kings.
With Drake being an ambassador for the Raptors and regularly sitting courtside at their games, he and DeRozan naturally became friends, at least on the outside. But the relationship has soured over the years, and a beef was officially born this past summer. Kendrick Lamar’s smash hit and diss track “Not Like Us” had a music video attached to its hype, in which DeRozan makes a cameo.
“If you ever put a DeRozan banner up ill go up there and pull it down myself….shout out to Kyle”. Drake, salty at DeMar DeRozan who was in the Not Like Us video with Kendrick Lamar. Damn. pic.twitter.com/KUN3ViL9E9

The two have a relationship that dates a while back, both hailing from Compton, California, and it was clear that DeRozan had chosen a side in the beef between the rappers. He was also seen on stage with Lamar during a concert in LA over the summer as the diss track was being performed.
None of it sat well with Drake. When the Kings visited the Raptors earlier this season, he took the microphone with the team’s local broadcast team, and had some thoughts about DeRozan’s legacy in Toronto. He was asked if he believes that DeRozan’s jersey should hang in the rafters at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, and quickly responded by saying that he would go and pull it down himself if that were to happen. Cameras also caught Drake subtly waving goodbye when DeRozan missed the game winning shot.
When asked about the comments after the game, the Kings’ forward said that Drake would have a “long way to climb” to pull his jersey down from the rafters.
Toronto Rapper Throws DeRozan’s Jersey Off Stage
Drake is apparently still holding the grudge. During a concert in Australia on Sunday night, the rapper got a hold of a fan’s DeMar DeRozan jersey and held it on stage as he was performing the song “Rich Flex”. He held the jersey up for a quick second, so the crowd could identify it, before bundling it up and forcefully throwing it into the crowd with a look of disgust on his face.

DeRozan himself has of course yet to respond, and likely won’t, but people on social media certainly have their opinions of the latest incident. Many are calling Drake petty for his actions, deeming them unnecessary and that he should focus his disdain on Kendrick Lamar, the real person that he is beefing with.
Drake is spending over a month on the Australian continent, with seven more shows to play in Brisbane and Sydney before finishing out with two dates in New Zealand.
DeRozan and the Kings are enjoying a much-needed break during the All-Star stoppage, and won’t play again until this coming Friday.
