Draymond Green played a big part in the saga that forced the Golden State Warriors to trade Jordan Poole back in 2023. A sucker punch from the veteran Green during practice caused a divide within the organization, a derailment of a defending championship team, and the mortgage of one of Golden State’s most important future assets.

Now, two and a half years after the incident, Draymond is “sorry” for his antics that contributed to the death of a dynasty.

Draymond Green Apologizes For The Jordan Poole Incident

The Washington Wizards visited San Francisco on Saturday evening. The fading Warriors were taking on Poole and the team that they traded him to, and the Wizards entered the game as the worst team in the NBA through the first ~40 games. Washington were losers of 8 straight contests, and came into the game against Golden State as heavy 13.5-point underdogs.

Poole and company wound up covering the spread, losing by 8 points when all was said and done, but the real intrigue came via social media in the hours that followed.

NBA insider Marc J. Spears fired off a tweet after questioning Poole about his relationship with his former teammates. “I love those guys over there,” Poole stated. “I love most of those guys over there.” It was blatantly obvious that he had Draymond Green in mind when he corrected his statement, and the Warriors forward left a reply to the tweet:

“I really am sorry”

While the Warriors and Wizards both struggle in their own right, it is becoming clear that Golden State would benefit from still having Poole on their roster. They are struggling to find scoring options alongside an aging Stephen Curry, and are currently hovering around the .500 mark because of it.

Meanwhile, Poole is having a career year. His 21.9 points per game is the highest mark of his six-year NBA career, and he is averaging more three point attempts than ever (9.1) while converting them at his highest-ever clip (40.7%). By comparison, no player on the Warriors’ roster aside from Curry averages more than 17.2 points per, and Steph is the only one making three pointers at a rate of better than 40%.

Draymond Green is putting up 8.4 points per game and his lowest rebounding numbers since 2012-2013. His field goal percentage is the third-worst mark of his career, and he has been in and out of the lineup while dealing with various injuries.
