Mirra Andreeva

Did anyone have the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships finalists picked at the beginning of the tournament? Mirra Andreeva and Clara Tauson are playing great tennis this year so it is only somewhat surprising that both plowed through difficult draws to reach the final.

Mirra Andreeva is the higher-ranked player at World No. 14. At 17, she is the youngest woman to play in a WTA 1000 final.  She won her first career WTA title in 2024 at the lasi Open.  However, the stakes are much higher in Dubai at this WTA 1000 final.

Clara Tauson, ranked 38th, has three career WTA titles, the most recent one at Auckland last month.  She is chasing her own history of being the first Danish woman to compete in a WTA 1000 final since Caroline Wozniacki.

Both players may feel nervous despite taking out big names to get to this final.

Mirra Andreeva’s Path To The Final

Andreeva defeated three Grand Slam champions this week: Marketa Vondrousova, Iga Swiatek, and Elena Rybakina. She won with excellent shotmaking and a calm demeanor.  She will need both of those qualities on Saturday against Clara Tauson.

Clara Tauson’s Path To The Final

Tauson’s huge win came in straight sets against two-time Australian Open champion and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.  This happened a month after the two played at the Australian Open, and Tauson lost in straight sets.  She backed up that big win with victories over Linda Noskova and Karolina Muchova.

Both players have been somewhat under-the-radar in 2025, but that changes on Saturday at 10:00 AM EST when they meet for the first time in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships final.  The beauty of women’s tennis is that a select few would have predicted it, but it promises to be a great match.
